Okay...now time to talk about hotel safety when it comes to fire alarms going off.
So it is 2 am and you hear the fire alarms going off, what do you do? I will tell you what you don't do. Don't stay in the room-it could be a false alarm or it could be a REAL fire. Don't call the front desk and start going off on the people when they tell you that they don't know if it is a false alarm or a real fire to evacuate, the longer you bitch about having to evacuate on the phone 2 things are going on...1 YOU may not be able to GET OUT or you COULD BURN UP and the 2nd thing is you are keeping the person(s) from seeing what is going on. You are not the only one in the hotel/motel that the staff has to worry about when something like this happens! I understand that it is an inconvenient to be woke up and have to leave out of your room at 2 am because of the fire alarms going off, HOWEVER it is better to be safe then sorry. Yes it could be a false alarm or it may not be...I would rather get out and it be a false alarm then stay and it be a real fire somewhere. And just because a fire alarm go's off don't mean the hotel/motel is a dump...bad way to find out, but you should feel safer knowing their system works even in false alarms. Another DON'T that I have seen all too much...just because your kids are sound asleep even with the fire alarm going off, DO NOT evacuate and leave the kids in the room. All this does is one of two things....1 you are a complete dumb ass idiot that should not have kids to start with or 2 that you don't give a damn about your kids and see them as a burden, either way you feel about your kids that YOU CHOSE to have and keep them...get them out when you leave out!
Now what to do when the fire alarm go's off!!! Get your shoes on, coat (if it is cold out), take wallet and/or pocketbook, take children and get the hell out of the building. That is all you need...shoes so your feet don't get cold, wet etc....coat so that you have something to keep you warm...wallet and/or pocketbook so that you at least have cash/credit card/ID if it is a real fire...children---this is a no brainier unless you are one of the two things above!!!! You don't worry about toys, the laptop you could not leave at home, ipods and so on...they can be replaced...your life and that of your family and friends can not be.
When a fire alarm go's off you should think and remember what you were tough the first few weeks of kindergarten! DO NOT remember???? Well here you go. 1. Wake everyone up. 2. Make sure everyone has clothing on. 3. Get to the floor and crawl to the door. 4. Feel the door, if it is HOT...DO NOT OPEN..........if it is cool, open staying close to the floor and get out of the closest exit! 5. Move at least 100 feet from the building.
Fire alarms and getting out is not rocket science people!!! When a fire alarm happens when you are staying at a hotel/motel this is a good way to teach/practice with your children about fire safety and how to evacuate. Hope you all remember this stuff for the next time you are at a hotel/motel! And there is one last thing...the staff can not help that the fire alarm went off, so why bitch at them and demand money back or a free night stay....first off you should thank them for being there getting the people out in case it is a real fire, and secondly they can't help the fire alarm went off!
If you don't want to be bothered with the possibility of a false/real fire alarm and all you want to do is bitch if it does happen......THEN STAY THE HELL HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
